| ~Kids we know who are making a difference ~
Chloe graduated from the Denver School of the Arts in May 2007. Instead of going straight to college, she decided to take a year off to work, travel, and do volunteer work. This past fall, she spent 8 weeks at an orphanage in Ghana, Africa, helping the children with homework and teaching the basics of life. She has seen lots of sickness and poverty. In January, she left home for a second time for Quetzaltenango, Guatemala, and will be there for three months. She works in an orphanage with small children who have no money and do not go to school. She's been teaching them to read and write, and has been collecting donations to purchase art supplies to do daily art and science projects.
Two weeks ago, the government came in and removed all the tables and chairs and government-purchased supplies. The children were left with almost nothing. Chloe just found a way to teach them on the floor until she got a donation to purchase some wooden tables and chairs. From her very first email home, Chloe commented on the bad state of the children's teeth - most are black or missing. Recently, she mentioned a little girl who has an infection in almost every tooth. She is in so much pain she can hardly eat. Even with that, she says the children are joyful and full of smiles. She loves Guatemala!
With the help of Chloe, her Mother and Grandparents, we were able to send the kids in Guatemala, toothbrushes, toothpaste and floss. If you're interested in making a donation, please contact Chole. cprofant@gmail.com |
